Can tinnitus manifest itself as two different sounds in both ears? My left ear has had a high pitched ringing for years, and now my right ear has a low pulsing hum. Is this normal or is it something else? I am a 23 year old seemingly healthy male.
The pulsating hum is new .. maybe 1 month old.. and does not go with my heart beat – it is much slower. I take Claritin D daily, rarely use Motrin IB for back pain and never more than 400mg in a dose. I was on a Prednisone oral 10 day schedule starting with 50mg back in January, and I had a 40mg Kenalog injection in mid-February. I have cut caffeine out of my diet, and I quit smoking entirely (never more than 1 a day previously… usually 3 a week so not heavy.)
I can’t figure this out! I have googled to no avail, and I am hesitant to go to the doctor because I am unemployed and have no insurance. When the left ear ringing began, they told me the ringing was permanent and to just live with it.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I had a hearing test when I was 14 and the initial ringing started. They found minimal loss of hearing and said it was most likely from an ear infection and it may or may not be permanent.
Fast forward 9 years, I have taken great care with my ears. I have only been to maybe 4 or 5 indoor concerts with loud music lasting 1-2hrs each. I realized this was dumb and haven’t gone to one in about 3 years. I even avoid movie theatres because the sound is too loud for my taste.
As for the medicine, I stopped taking Claritin-D and this problem started up. I had a congested left ear for a month which wouldn’t clear and I took it daily during winter as well as Nasonex to clear that up. Could this be related?
I don’t think this would be a big problem if it was sort of the same tune. Its like the opposite sound in my right ear and extremely annoying because it pulses and is hard to cover up.

or almost come on from post traumatic stress syndrome or something? i know you can get it from loud noises going directly into your ear and damaging the ear drum, but if you never had an ear infection that brought it on, could if be from traumatic experiences and some sort of mental trauma/psychological experience? thanks
*ALSO has there been any one (famous or not) that has tried to research this specific question before? Or even thought about it themselves? thanks!

hey!
im trying to figure out if i have tinnitus
ive had a ringing sound in one of my ears for a few days
i cant really hear it during the day, but i can in quiet rooms/when i try to sleep
i find that if i pull the back of my ear forward, so that it covers the ear hole, i cant hear the ringing sound
does that happen for other people with tinnitus?
People with Tinnitus from Loud Music or noise. Does the pitch of your tinnitus change when you bite your teeth down, does it change when you listen to music get louder, Or does it stay the same exact tone no matter what is going on.
I belive I have TMJ tinnitus But I havent been to a doctor yet, im trying to find out if this research on the internet is true, or if I have a different disorder..
Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) syndrome:
This jaw disorder may cause tinnitus and is characterized by many
symptoms, including headaches, earaches, tenderness of the jaw
muscles, dull facial pain, jaw noises, the jaw locking open, and pain
while chewing.
The Sternocleidomastoideus muscle connects on your sternum
by the collar bone on both sides and goes back to the back
of the ear. It’s about 6-10 inches long and when it gets
tight, it can pull on the TMJ area thereby creating a pull
on the muscles and ligaments around the inner ear area.
Almost certainly the final "pull" is the sphenomandibular
ligament which connects the ear drum and TMJ. An osteopath
can work with this. Xanax or other benzo’s can provide
tension relief as well. The masseter and temporalis muscles
(those in front of the ear and above the ear can cause the
same TMJ/tinnitus problems. If a person wants to know if
their tinnitus is connected to their TMJ in some way, have
them 1) clench their teeth- does it change the tinnitus? 2)
push in hard on the jaw with your palm. Does the tinnitus
change? (Get louder/softer, pitch or tone change) 3) Push in
on the forehead with your hand hard. Resist with the head.
Any changes? In about half the people I talk to, they find a
TMJ correlation they never even dreamed of…
Is this research True, or is my tinnitus from loud music?
This is what is up, one night I heard a loud roaring in my ears, then the tinnitus begun. When i bite my jaw it makes the tinnitus louder, or when I put pressure on my teeth. When I listen to music treble sounds distorted and it makes the tinnitus worse. Does anyone know a way to fix this from home or do you have to see a specialist, and are you sure this is not from sound induced trama.
